Ten years of red: CobdenHayson and the Drummoyne Junior Rugby Club

Some partnerships are transactional. Others become part of the fabric of a community. Our relationship with the Drummoyne Junior Rugby Club, the Dirty Reds, is firmly the latter.

This year marks a decade of CobdenHayson Drummoyne proudly sponsoring one of the Inner West's most beloved junior clubs. Ten seasons of mud-caked jerseys, Saturday morning cheers, and watching young players grow as athletes and as people.

The Dirty Reds are no newcomers to rugby. The senior club was established in 1874, making it one of the longest-serving rugby clubs in New South Wales - 152 years of tradition that today's juniors carry with them every time they take the field. The junior club has grown to welcome over 250 players each season, from five-year-olds finding their feet all the way through to Under 17s who are ready to make the step up to senior football.

The Dirty Reds are consistently among the competition's finals contenders and have developed more than a few champions over the years, but beyond that are many other factors that make the club special - things like culture, community involvement, everyone being welcome, and positive sportsmanship.

That ethos resonates deeply with us at CobdenHayson. We've watched many of our own families put down roots in the Drummoyne community, and for a number of them, the Dirty Reds have been part of that story. Our very own Tim Wieland even pulled on the red jersey himself back in the day.

The 2026 season kicked off last Sunday and the club is hosting a Mother’s Day event on the morning of Sunday 10 May at Taplin Park – there will be champagne, cakes and a Mother’s Day stall.
