Stanmore has a long history and was once part of Annandale farm. The suburb was called South Annandale until the 1930s when it was named after the village in England where the founder of Newington College was born. Stanmore is renowned for its schools and has three within its boundaries including Newington College, Stanmore Public and St Michaels Stanmore. Well connected by bus and train, Stanmore is within easy reach of the University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
