Nicholson Street Public School in East Balmain is best known for its annual Halloween festival, now in what would be its 33rd year, where the local community comes together dressed up as witches and ghouls to participate in a host of Halloween activities from the haunted house to the monster mash.

Each year the local business community has been key in supporting the school, providing sponsorship funds and prizes for the Halloween silent auction to raise money for resources.

This year, with the possibility of a festival off the cards due to COVID, the P&C has pivoted to give back to the local business community, who is core to the ongoing success of the school.

Says Mrs Sue Ross, Principal of Nicholson Street Public School, “We teach our students to be resilient and adapt to change, and we cement our teaching with our actions, morphing the festival into the Tricks and Treats Book for 2020.” Full of great offers and discounts to local businesses the Nicholson Street Public School Tricks and Treats discount book, just like the well-loved Entertainment Book, will provide a much-needed surge in customers and sales in the local area. Despite challenging times for business, ongoing key sponsors of the school, Cobden and Hayson, have continued their unwavering support along with Woolworths who will run a pumpkin-carving competition from October 17 – 31, 2020. Nicholson Street Public School is located on the eastern tip of the Balmain Peninsula and has been an integral part of the area since its foundation in 1883.
