The CobdenHayson Projects team has delivered another outstanding result for a beautifully reimagined Balmain family home, with 8 Davidson Street closing at $4.65m. It's one of the strongest pre-auction outcomes we've seen in the area so far this year. Behind the number is a story spanning more than half a century, and a transformation that took real grit to pull off.
Fifty years in one family
The original freestanding home on this prized corner block had been built, loved and tightly held by a single local family for over fifty years. In September 2024, our team sold it for $2.3m, a pristine canvas with five decades of memories built into its walls.
When you sell a home with that much family history, you're handling someone's memories, not just bricks and mortar. During the recent marketing campaign for the newly transformed property, the original owners walked back through the front doors. One of the daughters was overwhelmed, fighting back tears at the flood of childhood memories the house brought back.
The new owner-builders had deliberately retained the home's original front door as a quiet tribute to its past. They preserved a section of an internal brick wall that the daughter's late father had laid with his own hands five decades earlier. And they’d handed over the original street number and personally gifted it back to the family, so they could carry a physical piece of their history forward with them.
These are the moments that don't make the listing photos but are exactly why we do this job.
