What is your design philosophy?

To design with an integrated understanding of landscape, interiors and architecture.

Where did the inspiration for your design come from?

From the surrounding nature, in particular the site’s topography.

What were the key drivers for the project?

There were multiple drivers including getting light into the space, creating an integrated set of spaces and resolving the narrow site.

Your use of light is exceptional. Briefly describe your approach to achieving this luminosity.

It’s all about balancing light throughout the building and designing the spaces around the flow of light.

What informed the material palette you used?

The client played a key role in the material selection. We both wanted to achieve a warm, clean, contemporary finish.

What does meaningful architecture mean to you?

Architecture is that poetic use of light, space and materials to deliver a functional and beautiful building.

How would you define your architectural approach?

I like to meditate when I walk through a site for the first time. Take a look at how it feels in it right in that moment and envision how it could look, how I can capture the best moments of light and air and comfort and amplify them.

How does your design ethos manifest itself in the building?

The entire building has been designed with the above approach, what we went from to what we have now is a 360 degree change. I needed to create a building for a healthy lifestyle, which was not there before and using the techniques above I think we achieved that well.
