LOCAL ARTIST RULES THE RENOVATION ON HOUSE RULES

Local Rozelle artist Fleur Stevenson is ruling the renovation on the latest episode of House Rules airing on Channel 7 this week.

This series, House Rules: High Stakes, is the first to feature a partnership with online gallery Art Lovers Australia – bringing homegrown Australian artists into the picture with original artworks being the centrepiece of each renovation.

With new hosts Jamie Durie and Abbey Way, as well as a new judging panel and new format, the show’s eighth season is creating a huge buzz among home renovators.

It’s been the opportunity of a lifetime for local artist Fleur Stevenson to launch her work into the national spotlight. Stevenson’s artwork ‘Sunset Hilltops’ was featured on this week’s episode as part of the renovation by Aimee and Kane and as well as her two artworks ‘Elkington’ and ‘Margaret’ featured in Lenore and Brads renovation.

About Sunset Hilltops

Sunset Hilltops is an abstract infusion of gestural brushstrokes and a dramatic palette.

“With this work, I influenced by the sun setting over the Blue Mountains in regional NSW. The composition is built up with gestural and exaggerated painterly marks of the hills and stylised against a stark cream background,” said Stevenson. “For me creating my art is a passion that extends beyond my studio and into my everyday life. I selected the colours to amplify the landscape’s pink tones during sunset and create a series of hills to delve into.

About Elkington

Elkington is an abstract expression of Elkington Park in Balmain in a vibrant pink colour palette.

“I created Elkington” from my drawings of Elkington Park and then took the images back to my studio to rework and create a new mountainous mapping of the area.” Stevenson creates stencils from her drawings and builds up a composition using spray paint and painterly brush strokes to create her abstract landscapes.

About Margaret

Margaret is named after Margaret Street in Rozelle and is painted using stencils and spray paint.

“Margaret is a collection of the shapes and drawings during my walks along the street. I’m playing around with balancing and unbalancing geometric shapes and creating a new mapping of the street,” said Stevenson.
