COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT – ACME FRAMING

The Art of Being Framed

If you’ve wandered around the creative hub of Surry Hills any time over the last few decades, chances are you’ve come across an Acme framing showroom. In fact, Acme have been servicing Inner Sydney with its bespoke picture frames and mounting options for over 30 years, and in that time they have become the go-to place for locals and out-of-towners to frame that special picture or preserve a treasured piece of memorabilia.

Father and son owners Jeff and Jim Bracken run a highly skilled team with a combined 100 years experience in the business and it shows; their detailed workmanship displays a passion for framing and a willingness to apply out-of-the-box thinking in order to perfectly capture every job they are working on.

“It’s the challenge of breathing life into a piece of art or memorabilia that I love the most about this profession,” says Jeff. “We don’t limit ourselves to conventional picture framing because every work is different and needs a customised approach to express the subject in its best light.”

Acme specialises in conservation framing and bringing memories back to life with a long history of reinventing old family photos and mementos. The team has many creative ways to capture family stories through framing, preserving old photos, or enhancing an old piece of memorabilia up their sleeves.

“Our aim is to create a great conversation piece for our clients, and it’s not always about leaving art untouched on the walls,” says Jeff. “We have ways of mounting old war medals or watches in a way that you can pull them out and wear them on Anzac Day or when required.”

It’s rare to find something they are unable to capture; the team at Acme have been known to stretch, mount, float, encase and protect virtually anything.
