Leichhardt
Overview
Delicious would be a way to describe life in Leichhardt. Settled by wealthy landowners in the 1840's, Leichhardt's history is rich and diverse. It is perhaps most well known for the Italian migrants that settled in the area in the early 1920's and adopted the suburb as their own. Italians are renowned for their style — great food, coffee and wine, fine fabrics, beautiful furnishings, inspirational architecture and innovative designs; all these elements have combined to create the soul of Leichhardt. The main streets are Norton and Marion, which are filled with a mix of fabulous restaurants, cafes and food shops, as well as a great variety of home and lifestyle stores. The homes in Leichhardt are mainly from the Victorian era, character terraces or Edwardian semi's, with the occasional modern house and apartment. Leichhardt began its existence as a number of land grants.
